Jessica Sciarone, PhD

Welcome! I am a Political Scientists and Lecturer at the University of Washington. I investigate the political and cultural drivers of extremist mainstreaming. My work bridges international relations, security studies, and terrorism studies, focusing on how extremist ideologies spread into mainstream political and cultural discourse. I am currently developing a book project examining how extremist ideas become legible within mainstream culture. Using a qualitative approach, I analyze online communities and social networks to understand and mitigate the impact of extremist ideologies. 

I have a Master of Arts in Intelligence and International Security from King's College London, a Master of Science in Crisis and Security Management from Leiden University and a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Washington.
